The core of craft of exile is the ability to modify and
enhance your gear. From simple transmutations to more complex alterations, the
items you create define your playstyle. The crafting bench adds a layer of
complexity to these basic rules, providing advanced options like rerolling an
item's modifiers and adding new ones through the use of exalted orbs.
Identifying Modifiers
Modifiers are special bonuses that can appear on items,
monsters, strongboxes or areas. They usually apply statistics, buffs or grant
skills to the affected entity. Modifiers can be both local and global. Local
modifiers are those that affect only one item or hand, while global ones are
affecting every attack with that weapon/hand. Modifier groups (or families)
restrict which modifiers may appear together on an object. Generally, a group
of modifiers can be added to an item only once; adding more of the same type of
modifier will remove the existing ones. This prevents players from accidentally
rerolling or removing a valuable stat for no reason, by simply adding an
unwanted mod to an item that already has all of the desired ones.
To reduce the chances of a mistake, the game provides
players with a variety of ways to identify modifiers. These include the use of
a specialized affix table for each type of item, the use of identifier orbs to
display all available affixes and the use of bench crafting options such as
fossil crafting in the menagerie and imprinting to expand the pool of possible
modifiers that can be applied to an item.
Many of these methods can also be used to modify existing
modifiers on an item. For example, using a Divine Orb will reroll the numerical
values of Explicit Modifiers; however, it will not reroll the groups they
belong to or their tiers. Furthermore, using an Orb of Dominance on a magic or
rare item will add Elevated Modifiers to the item, but it will remove a random
influenced modifier as well. This means players should choose their afixes
wisely to maximize the potential of an item.
Bench Crafting
You can craft items at the bench located in your hideout.
Every item in the game can be crafted using the bench, except for special items
you receive from the Unique Maps and slaying architects in Temple of Atzoatl
(Betrayal League only). The bench can also be used to craft specialized potions
for emergencies in Conan Exiles. The simplest way to craft an item is by using
an Orb of Transmutation on it. This will upgrade a base white item to a magic
item with one or two random modifiers. If you don’t like the mods you get, you
can use a Regal Orb to reroll them.
There are other ways to modify an item, but they are
expensive and require skill. The Fragmented Item and Synthesized Item crafts
can add new modifiers to an item, but they will require a lot of currency. The
Faceted Fossil is a unique crafting method that allows you to add up to three
crafted modifiers to an item. However, this method requires a high item level
to achieve desirable results and it can be expensive to use if you’re not
careful.
Lastly, there is Metacrafting. This method is useful when
you want to add multiple crafted modifiers to an item, such as adding four blue
sockets. The process of doing this is a gamble, as it may only produce the
desired result half the time. However, you can reroll the modifiers with a
Regal Orb, which will give you better odds at getting the desired results. This
is important when crafting items with key modifiers that are expensive to
re-obtain, such as a +2 gem prefix or suffix.
Faceted Fossil Crafting
In craft of exile,
the item system is a key part of the game. The way in which items are improved
or modified through adding, removing, and swapping modifiers is known as
crafting. It is a massively complex system that requires skill, strategy, and a
fair amount of luck. The faceted fossil is a stackable currency that allows
players to more deterministically craft items. It can be obtained from
completing the Molten Cavity node in Magma Fissure or by selling it to Niko the
Mad for 1,000,000 Azurite. The faceted fossil grants +1 to the level of
socketed STR, INT, and DEX gems on items. It also multiplies the spawn weights
of all modifiers with the "gem" tag by 10.
Fossil crafting was introduced in the Delve expansion
league. It is an alternative to using Chaos Orbs or Essences and can be used to
block off stats that you don't want, guarantee certain types of rolls on items,
and more.
For example, a pristine fossil can guarantee life rolls
while also blocking off defense related modifiers like energy shield and armour
rating from rolling on the item. It can also be used to guarantee a specific
type of attribute roll on an item such as more physical or more lightning
rolls. Fossil crafting is a fantastic alternative to the standard ways in which
items are improved in the game and it can make the process of building a
powerful item much more manageable. It is a great way to take the guesswork out
of improving items in the game and can be extremely helpful for more advanced
players. However, it can also be a frustrating and time-consuming way to
improve items for beginners.
Splitting Items
One of the more interesting aspects of item crafting is the
ability to split items. This is a way to create multiple copies of a rare or
magic item that will keep the item level, sockets, links, and color, but will
add one or two random explicit modifiers to each copy. This is very useful for
ensuring that your gear has the best possible mods. It can also be used to
maximize the amount of items you can get from the Menagerie and reroll them
using Essences without risking any of their implicit mods.
This method of splitting items can be done with any item
that has the veiled modifier, but is most commonly used on weapons with two
prefixes and two suffixes, such as a Bloodthirst axe or a Vivid Lifeforce
necklace. A player can also use an Orb of Scouring on a veiled item to remove
all of its random modifiers and make it like a normal, non-veiled item again.
It will not however remove any affixed or sextant mods or protect them with an
Imprint, as those are considered unique to the original item.
Another way to modify a rare or magic item is by using a
Beastcrafting recipe. This involves sacrificing four beasts to the Blood Altar
in the Menagerie and can result in either a magic or a rare item. The item will
have all of its implicit mods, but it will gain a Split modifier that cannot be
removed, which can potentially “contaminate” the item. This can be a good
method of making an item magic, but should only be used when meta mods aren't
available or the cost to do so is low.
Metacrafting
Metacrafting is a form of item enhancement in Path of Exile.
It involves the use of various currency orbs, master crafting, essences,
fossils, and other items to create powerful equipment and weapons. It requires
a great deal of skill, knowledge, and luck to be successful. It is a risky and
costly venture, so it is only used for rare items and higher-tier builds. The
most basic forms of Metacrafting involve transforming items through various
currency orbs that affect item quality. The most common currency orbs include
Armorer's Scrap, Blacksmith's Whetstones, and Glassblower's Baubles. These orbs
improve an item's armor, evasion, energy shield, and weapon physical damage.
They are available through a vendor or can be purchased from other players.
More advanced Metacrafting methods revolve around the
interaction between items and specific mods. These mods can prevent certain
aspects of an item from being changed by other crafting methods, such as the
Orb of Annulment or the Orb of Scouring. This can be helpful for preventing
certain unwanted modifiers from being removed, such as a prefix or suffix that
cannot be removed without breaking the item.
Conclusion
Using Metacrafting can also be helpful for creating specific
items that would otherwise be impossible to craft. For example, if an item has
two wanted affixes, the player can use an Orb of Alteration to remove one affix
and then use another to add the desired affix. This is a more cost-efficient
way to get the desired item than simply spamming Orbs of Rejuvenation or trying
to roll a new affix on an existing item.
The Metacrafting mechanic is also useful for preventing
certain types of items from being ruined by the Orb of Scouring, which removes
all properties from an item. This can be very helpful for preserving high-end
items like rare rings and necklaces.
